Federal Police Registration

Foreigners will have 30 (thirty) days from the date of arrival in Brazil to register with the Federal Police in the city where he/she will be based, in order to obtain the RNE (Registro Nacional de Estrangeiros), which is an identity card for foreigners. Students should inform us the arrival date in Brazil in advance, so that USP can provide the appointment at the Federal Police.

FDRP International Office helps foreigners (teachers and students) scheduling a visit to Federal Police and CAPEE (USP-RP Center of Support for Foreign Visitors) checks on the paperwork, helps filling up the forms, getting the certified copies and paying the fees. Student just need to bring the original documents.

The Federal Police will require the following documents in order to issue an RNE:

Original valid passport;

Certified copies of the used pages of the passport or travel document;

Visa application form and a certified copy thereof;

Proof of payment of R$ 64,58, concerning registration fee for foreigners;

Proof of payment of R$ 124,23, for the foreigner ID;

Two (02) recent photos, size 3×4 (colored, white background, front, unadorned smooth paper);

Arrival and departure (original and certified copy);

Proof of address in Brasil;

The documents requested and the amount of fees may have sudden changes, so it’s always important to be aware.
