The Ribeirão Preto Campus

Ribeirão Preto is an important geopolitical center in the São Paulo State, being one of its most well-developed cities, both economically and culturally. Despite being essentially urban, its main wealth comes from agribusiness in the region.

It’s a city with a successful academic tendency. USP’s campus in Ribeirão Preto was founded over 50 years ago, in the former Monte Alegre coffee farm, which today hosts a solid and complex biomedical and health center, a source of pride for the region and for the University itself. Since 1992, important undergraduate programs in human and social sciences have been created in the campus, such as Pedagogy, Information and Documentation Sciences, Music, Business Management, Accounting Sciences and Economy. Up until 2007, there were no programs related to legal sciences; this problem was solved by the creation of the Law School of Ribeirão Preto.

The creation of this new USP School, as a way to provide professional education that qualifies students for the job market, is extremely relevant, seeing that other schools based on the same campus are national and international references in knowledge production; therefore, the Law School of Ribeirão Preto should represent a qualitative benefit and exert influence over its surroundings.

The USP campus in Ribeirão Preto is widely recognized for both its beautiful park-like setting and its academic excellence. Originally planned in the 1950s as a health sciences campus (medical and nursing sciences, pharmaceutical sciences, dentistry), several academic specialties were gradually added, such as physics and mathematics, information technology, chemistry, biology, psychology and education. More recently, a School of Economics, Business Administration and Accounting, a Law School, a School of Physical Education and an undergraduate program in Music were created. Thus, the Ribeirão Preto Campus now is not only the second largest USP campus in terms of academic specialties, but also in terms of scientific production.

So as to best receive visiting scientists and students from abroad, the Campus has an International Office that works side by side with each School’s International Offices and helps visitors get settled in and feel the hospitality of the countryside. Being an administrative, business and cultural center in the interior of São Paulo, the city has an active cultural and student life.
