USP has been ranked among the world’s top universities in 39 out of 48 specific areas evaluated by the QS World University Ranking by Subject, published on February 26th.

Out of the thirty nine, nine areas were ranked among the top 50: Odontology (20th place), Sports Sciences (27th), Modern Languages (30th), Mining Engineering (33rd), Geography (42nd), Architecture (44th), Law (45th), Civil Engineering (45th) and Agriculture (49th). USP also ranked between the 51st and 100th position in 19 specific areas; other nine areas were among the top 150 and two more, among the top 200.

Therefore, the Law program continues to rank among the world’s top 50 according to the ranking, maintaining previous years’ positions (2018 and 2017).

The 48 specific areas are grouped in five greater areas. In this general ranking, the University climbed positions in comparison to last year and was ranked among the top 100 in the five areas. In Arts and Humanities, we achieved the 76th position; in Engineering and Technology, the 89th position; in Life Sciences and Medicine, 93rd; in Natural Sciences, 71st and in Social Sciences and Management, the 69th position.

Published yearly since 2011 by Quacquarelli Symonds, a British research organization specialized in higher education institutions, the ranking evaluated universities according to four indicators (academic reputation, reputation among employers, scientific citations and H index), adapted to each specific area. This year’s novelty was the inclusion of two specific areas: Classics & Ancient History and Library & Information Management.
